Carpet work and bad news

This week was a good news bad news type of week. Let’s start with the good news.

My main objective was to cut all the carpet padding patterns and set them in place in the car. I started with the driver’s foot well since it would take the most work.

I removed the steering column and cleaned the floor really well.

Then I started to put the soundproofing/heat-shielding in place. It is not pretty but it will do the trick.

The padding was placed down and all the cuts were made. I did not glue anything in place yet. Notice that the dimmer switch is now installed. What a pain that was!!

Then the carpet was laid on top. When it gets finished it will look nice.

The bad news is that I called Chris, who came over to look at the car. I needed advice and help getting the suspension pumped up. He took one look at the hose and noticed that it was a bit rusty. We tried to hook up the hoses connecting the front driver’s side to the rear but they would not connect.

Chris suggested having me bring the car down to his shop in April or May so that he can operate on it and get it all set up properly. I agreed. I have been working on this project for nearly six and a half years. I do not want to mess anything up now. He was glad I did not glue the carpet in place because he would have to rip it up to get to the front sub-frame bolts.

So I started to install the rear windshield rubber strip but lost my patience….I will finish it this week.
