Front seat installation

This week I only had time to do a couple little things on the interior. I wanted to install the front seats so I could finally get them out of the cellar. I had to first install the carpet on the "hump".

Then, after cutting into the pad and carpet, the brackets for the seats had to be bolted in.

First the driver’s side (left side).

Then the passenger’s side (right side).

Man, that is satisfying!! Yes, I know I have to dust everything off!!

My Christmas present from my brother-in-law finally arrived! Panel clips from Victoria British. He ordered twenty of the plastic ones. I sent them back to Kansas in exchange for the proper metal ones.

They were installed in the rear C pillar pads which will be installed this week. It takes time to line them all up. Maybe by the weekend I will snap a shot of them in place.

I will keep puttering along.

Carpet work and bad news

This week was a good news bad news type of week. Let’s start with the good news.
My main objective was to cut all the carpet padding patterns and set them in place in the car. I started with the driver’s foot well since it would take the most work.

I removed the steering column and cleaned the floor really well.

Then I started to put the soundproofing/heat-shielding in place. It is not pretty but it will do the trick.

The padding was placed down and all the cuts were made. I did not glue anything in place yet. Notice that the dimmer switch is now installed. What a pain that was!!

Then the carpet was laid on top. When it gets finished it will look nice.

The bad news is that I called Chris, who came over to look at the car. I needed advice and help getting the suspension pumped up. He took one look at the hose and noticed that it was a bit rusty. We tried to hook up the hoses connecting the front driver’s side to the rear but they would not connect.

Chris suggested having me bring the car down to his shop in April or May so that he can operate on it and get it all set up properly. I agreed. I have been working on this project for nearly six and a half years. I do not want to mess anything up now. He was glad I did not glue the carpet in place because he would have to rip it up to get to the front sub-frame bolts.

So I started to install the rear windshield rubber strip but lost my patience….I will finish it this week.

Rear windshield (windscreen) installation

This week I concentrated on getting the rear windshield installed. The first thing that had to be done was to finish fitting the rubber gasket seal in place and repair it with rubber cement.

A thin string was then soaked in dishwashing soap and tucked into the groove with a putty knife. I watched videos and read how to install windshields so I thought I would prepare ahead of time.

Since this was going to be a two person job, I called John over for his help. On the first attempt, we found that the windshield was not seating properly in the opening with the rubber gasket installed. We took it off the windshield and fit it on the car first.

The windshield was set in place and a taped putty knife was used to seat the glass into the rubber groove. With me inside the car pushing the gasket and John outside using the blade, this seemed to work well.

An hour and a half after starting the project, the rear windshield is finally in place! The only thing that needs to be done is to put the rubber locking strip into the groove in the outside of the gasket.

It looks good from the inside, also!

And, just for fun, I installed the Wingard interior light. I bought this one off that auction site just before the prices for them began to skyrocket. Sometimes I get lucky.

This week will be a busy one so only odds and ends will be getting done. Stay tuned!
