Puttering with parts

As we are nearing the end of the school year in three weeks, I am looking forward to spending more uninterrupted time on the car. But for now, I do what I can.
Good news first. My tachometer arrived from Nisonger Instruments. They did a fabulous job! I cannot wait to install it now.

I put in the old three hole grommet for the washer fluid tubes and wire harness. New ones are NLA so I had to do with what I had.

Installing that grommet allowed me to work on the windshield washer fluid system. I still need a bracket (like the one on the right where the two tubes come out of the grommet) and the right size screws to finish. It was like an arts and crafts project.

Then I decided to install the new oil pressure t piece with new switches. And yes, I used plumbers tape on the threads, Steve W. (I know he was going to ask me.)

Since I cannot find the correct size for the windshield wiper motor grommet, I just may clean this one up and reuse it…not that I really want to…but, you know.

This week I hope to be able to get to the high school workshop to fabricate a gauge pod bracket holder thingy for the four accessory gauges. And, I am hoping to receive my old style vacuum gauge from the UK this week.

Thanks for visiting.

Fiddling off the car

This week much of the work I did was done off of the car.
I had to research the correct original parts numbers for the grommets so I know which ones I need.

I used the Vernier calipers to measure the inner and outer diameters of each hole.

As I was searching for some of the old cruddy grommets in a container of rusty parts, I found that I still had the nozzles to the windshield washer squirter!! That was great because they are impossible to find. I will clean them up and install them this week.

I took my list of parts numbers and diameter measurements with me up to visit John to see if he had any of the grommets I needed. He had about half of them!! He also had some screws for the nozzles.

When I arrived home, I met the mailman in the driveway. I had to sign for these from England!!

I am still waiting on the tachometer from Nisonger and the dashboard lamps. But at least I have enough stuff to keep me busy on the car this week.
Thanks for visiting.

Heater hoses and cables

I had little time to work on Old Biddy this week. Time only allowed me to fiddle with just a few things.
I cut the heater hoses to length by using the old ones as a template.

I took them out to the car and hooked them up to the motor and poked them through the firewall into the passenger compartment. But I could not hook them up to the heater because I need the firewall grommets slid on and installed before I could finish.

I also cut a hose for the air filter canister. I just need the two clamps now.

I hooked up the hood (bonnet) release cable to the front latch. Quick and easy job.

And I hooked up the accelerator cable to its pedal and threaded the bare wire through the gusset.

Then the cable covering was slid back on. I will hook it up to the carbs this coming week along with the choke cable.

I am waiting now for the tachometer to come back from Nisonger and my voltmeter, oil pressure, and vacuum gauges to arrive from Britain before I can move on. And, I still must figure out the correct lamps used for the new wire harness in the dashboard. I also wish somebody made a kit with all the eleven necessary firewall grommets as there are grommet kits available for many other cars. If someone has a kit please let me know.
Thanks for visiting.
